Club de Golf Llavaneres

Club de Golf Llavaneres was founded in 1945, making it one of the oldest private golf clubs in Catalonia. It sits in Sant Andreu de Llavaneres on the Maresme coast, 30 minutes north of Barcelona, with the Mediterranean visible from most of the course and the Serralada Litoral mountain range rising behind.

The course was designed by F.W. Hawtree, the English architect from the Hawtree family dynasty (F.G. Hawtree, F.W. Hawtree, and Martin Hawtree together worked on over 700 courses worldwide, including Royal Birkdale and Lahinch). In Catalonia, F.W. Hawtree also designed Golf de Pals on the Costa Brava and Club de Golf Vallromanes, making Llavaneres one of three Hawtree courses in the region and the earliest.

The 18-hole par 72 layout uses the natural slope of the hillside leading down toward the sea. Tree-lined fairways wind through pines, cypresses, and palms, with subtle elevation changes that demand local knowledge and a short game to match. Several holes offer sea views, and the signature holes near the top of the property look out across the coastline toward Barcelona. The course is not the longest in the region, but the coastal wind and the strategic Hawtree bunkering make it a serious test.

Facilities include a clubhouse with restaurant, game rooms, pro shop, gymnasium, physiotherapy, and a golf school. The club has a strong members' culture and a full tournament calendar, including the Barnes International Golf Trophy. In the context of the 2031 Ryder Cup at nearby Camiral, Llavaneres has positioned itself as a historic coastal complement to the resort courses, with a traditional European club atmosphere that is increasingly rare in Catalonia.
