Club de Golf Costa Brava
Santa Cristina d'Aro, Girona
Club de Golf Costa Brava was founded on 10 April 1962 and is the oldest golf club on the Costa Brava. The social headquarters occupies a 19th-century masia (Catalan farmhouse) built in 1841, entered through an avenue of cypresses that has become a symbol of the club's hospitality.
The course was designed by John Hamilton Stutt, a founding member of the British Association of Golf Course Architects who created over 120 courses across Europe and the Middle East, including Turnberry's Ailsa Course, St Mellion Old, Meon Valley, and Woodbury Park. Stutt's Green Course (Recorrido Verde) plays to par 72 over 3,648 metres from the back tees. The front nine winds through technical corridors of pine and cork oak; the back nine opens onto flatter terrain that demands length. Streams (rieras) come into play on several holes, notably the 380-metre 18th.
The club opened to the public in 1968 and quickly became part of the social scene that defined S'Agaro and Platja d'Aro in the 1960s and 70s. Sean Connery played the course in its early years, alongside leading British professionals of the era. In 2011, a second nine (the Recorrido Rojo) was added by Jorge Soler and Eugenio Aguado, bringing the complex to 27 holes. A new practice facility was inaugurated in May 2025.
Costa Brava is the only club on the region with a true social character, and that identity is reflected everywhere: the masia clubhouse, the Costa Brava Restaurant & Cafe serving traditional Catalan cuisine, and the pace of play. It sits 10 minutes from Platja d'Aro, 15 from Sant Feliu de Guixols, and 30 minutes from Emporda Golf.

Is Club de Golf Costa Brava open to visitors?+
Yes, despite being a members' club it welcomes visiting golfers. The club has a genuine social character that you do not find at resort courses - expect a warm welcome at the masia clubhouse.
What is the masia clubhouse?+
A Catalan farmhouse (masia) built in 1841, predating the club itself by more than a century. It serves as the social headquarters and houses the Costa Brava Restaurant & Cafe, which specialises in traditional Catalan cuisine.
Did Sean Connery really play here?+
Yes. When the course opened in 1968 it coincided with the social boom in S'Agaro and Platja d'Aro. Sean Connery played alongside leading British professionals during that era.
How does Costa Brava compare to the other Costa Brava courses?+
It is the oldest (founded 1962) and the only true members' club in the region. The Hamilton Stutt design has a classic British feel that contrasts with the more modern resort courses at Emporda, Pals, and Peralada. It combines well with any of them for a multi-day Costa Brava golf trip.
